this is a tough topic-
death is the first band that comes to mind...but think about just how many bands now that must have listened to At The Gates growing up and now rip off of them the same way bands in the late '80's early '90's started to sound a lot like slayer (IE morbid angel, early nocturnus, some black metal bands from europe...etc...)
I would have to give the nod to ATG based on that.
what do you all think?

Re: most influential death metal band of the past 15 years
Fri, April 13, 2007 - 7:54 PMI don't know about the last 15 years but Exodus used to do it for me. I like Carcass and Pestilence. Kreator. There are so many I like. I'm sure there are way more out there I havent heard unfortunately just because I cant afford all the cd's and even if I could I wouldnt know what the best shit is. I used to look through the Death Metal area in stores and would just pic things because the cover art looked cool. I would really love to know what the best bands are so I could get the best ones and avoid wasting money and time on bullshit. -

Re: most influential death metal band of the past 15 years
Sat, April 21, 2007 - 11:49 PMWell, for me, true prog (which begot good death metal IMO) comes from Rush. So I'd say Rush are the most influencial...
I'd say the most steadyfast group would be a toss up: Vader, Cannibal Corpse... I'd also agree that Testamnet is worthy also.

Re: most influential death metal band of the past 15 years
Sat, June 16, 2007 - 11:35 PMthe speed metal precursors:
can't deny the groundwork that Slayer laid. the dueling guitars, the straight up aggression...
Testament even had it's moments. Listen to Into the Pit from The New Order, and imagine it with death growls. That's death metal, baby
then the bands themselves
Death
Obituary
Napalm Death
Carcass
these are the ones that come to mind for me -
